Dr. Vallabh Janardhan has joined the University of Minnesota as an Assistant Professor of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Radiology (tenure track). Dr. Janardhan trained in Neurology at Boston University, did his Stroke and Neuro-critical care fellowship at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital, and subsequently trained in Interventional Neuroradiology at the University Hospitals of Cornell and Columbia/New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

He has extensive experience as a clinical teacher and researcher. He has established a promising track record for scholarship and has more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and abstracts. He has written several book chapters and invited review articles and is also the co-editor of the Interventional Neurology section of Medlink Neurology.

He is a member of several national and International Professional Societies including the American Heart Association/Stroke Council, American Academy of Neurology and the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology. He is also thefounding member of the Society for Vascular and Interventional Neurology as well as the Neurocritical Care Society. He has lectured widely to peers, faculty, residents and students during symposia, grand rounds and other venues where he is eager to share with everyone the exciting advances in the field.

Research Interests:
Ischemic and Hemorrhagic Stroke: epidemiology, endovascular treatments and outcomes.
Endovascular Neural-transplantation of stem cells and genes for various neurological disorders including Stroke.
Innovations in neuro-interventional medical devices.

Dr. Janardhan has trained in a multitude of emergency and elective endovascular surgical neuroradiology procedures that deal with vascular disorders of the head, neck, brain and spine in adults and children.

Recanalization procedures:
Acute stroke intervention: Intra-arterial thrombolysis of cerebral vessels; mechanical reperfusion procedures including using the MERCI device. intra-arterial thrombolysis for retinal strokes.
Vasospasm treatment: Intra-arterial vasodilator therapy, proximal and distal balloon angioplasty.
Stenotic and occlusive disease: Angioplasty and stenting of the carotid, vertebral and subclavian arteries. Intracranial angioplasty and stenting of the carotid, middle cerebral, vertebral and basilar arteries.


Embolization procedures:

Aneurysms: Endovascular coiling, balloon-assisted coiling of aneurysms, stent-assisted coiling of aneurysms.
Brain and spinal arteriovenous malformations and AV fistulas: Embolization using glue and ONYX.
Carotid-cavernous fistulas: Transarterial and transvenous embolization.
Vein of Galen malformations
Vertebral dissections/pseudoaneurysms: Coiling, stent-assisted coiling, and endovascular coil occlusion of parent vessel.
Pre-surgical embolization of brain and spinal tumors.
Percutaneous embolization of cutaneous malformations (hemangioma, lymphovenous malformations, etc) of the head and neck.
Embolization of bleeding arteries in the head and neck including Epistaxis.
Vertebroplasty and Kyphoplasty procedures for spine.

Other procedures:
Diagnostic cerebral and spinal angiography
WADA testing
Temporary Balloon test occlusion
